Your questions, clearly answered.
A starting point for understanding our services. To discuss your situation, contact the office directly.
How long does tax preparation take?
Timing depends on the complexity of your case and whether your documents are complete. After reviewing your information, the office will provide an estimated timeline.
Are services only available during tax season?
No. ALVED offers services throughout the year. Contact the office to arrange the support you need.
What types of insurance can I ask about?
You can explore life, health, auto and business insurance options. Available alternatives depend on your needs and budget.
How much does the service cost?
The cost depends on your case and the service you need. The office provides an estimate before work begins.
Can I complete the process virtually?
ALVED offers virtual service, document exchange and electronic signatures. Ask the office about the steps and the appropriate channel for your case.
Do you offer immigration services?
Yes. You can ask about document preparation support for immigration procedures. The office will explain the scope of the services available.
EITC or Child Tax Credit? How much can I receive?
The EITC depends on earned income and qualifying children; the Child Tax Credit has its own requirements. For 2026 (returns filed in 2027), the maximum EITC amounts are: No children, $664; 1 child, $4,427; 2 children, $7,316; 3 or more, $8,231. These are not fixed amounts per child: the credit rises with income up to a limit and then decreases.

What is an ITIN, and do I need a Social Security number?
An ITIN is a number for tax purposes for people who need one and are not eligible for an SSN. You apply to the IRS using Form W-7 and supporting documentation. It does not authorize you to work or grant immigration status.

W-2 or 1099? Which means paying less tax?
A W-2 reports wages, and the employer usually withholds taxes; a 1099-NEC reports self-employment income, where you normally manage your payments and self-employment tax. Neither guarantees lower taxes: it depends on your income, deductible expenses and situation.

Why is my refund delayed?
There may be errors, information to verify or an additional IRS review. Check your status in “Where's My Refund” on irs.gov. If you received a letter from the IRS, review it with the office.

What documents do I need?
Identification, tax information and records of all your income (W-2s and 1099s when applicable), documents for dependents, expenses and health coverage depending on your situation. Your previous tax return also helps. This list is a general guide.

Who qualifies as a dependent?
A child or another person who meets the tax requirements. Relationship, age, living arrangements, income and financial support are reviewed. Supporting someone financially does not mean you can automatically claim them.

Can I correct a return from a previous year?
Yes. Errors from previous years are corrected with an amended return (Form 1040-X). Bring the original return and the documents that changed to the office so we can review your case.
What should I do if I cannot pay what I owe the IRS?
File your return on time even if you cannot pay everything: this avoids the failure-to-file penalty, which is usually higher. The IRS offers payment plans; you can check the options on IRS.gov and review your situation with the office.
I received a letter from the IRS. What should I do?
Do not ignore it, and check the response deadline. Bring it to the office with your return for that year so we can review what the IRS is requesting and your next steps.
